Understanding ATS & scores

What is an ATS?

An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is software employers use to collect applications, parse resume text into searchable fields, and let recruiters filter or rank candidates by skills, titles, and keywords. Many candidates are never surfaced in a recruiter search even when their resume is stored — especially if parsing or terminology does not align with the role.

ResumeBee does not connect to any employer ATS and does not predict what Workday, Greenhouse, Taleo, or another vendor would score. We apply a fixed, transparent checklist inspired by common parser and keyword issues so you can improve your resume before you apply.

How does ResumeBee measure ATS readiness?

The headline ATS readiness score (0–100) is computed by our deterministic ATS engine: same resume text and same form inputs always produce the same score. It is a transparent heuristic, not a guarantee of interview outcome or employer ranking.

For each of two presets — Global and TR — five sub-scores are combined using these weights:

Factor Weight What we check
Parseability 25% Penalties when lines look “table-like” (pipes, tabs, dense spacing, semicolons) or when line lengths vary a lot — a proxy for layout that can confuse text extraction.
Sections 20% Share of expected headings detected (summary, experience, education, skills, projects, contact) using preset-specific aliases.
Keywords 30% Share of a keyword list found in your resume. If you paste a job description, the list is built from frequent terms/bigrams in that JD. If not, the list comes from title-based vocabulary for your target role. This applies to the ATS score only (see keyword gaps below).
Impact 15% Lines with number or metric patterns (%, currency, counts, etc.), with extra credit when impact-style action verbs appear on those lines.
Clarity 10% Action-verb density relative to sentence count, minus a penalty when average sentence length is very long.

What are Global and TR scores?

Global uses English-first section aliases and verb lists. TR uses Turkish-aware headings and verbs (plus a small set of Turkish title extensions). Each preset gets its own weighted total. The overall ATS score shown in your report is the rounded average of the Global and TR totals. Use the Global/TR toggle under ATS details to compare preset breakdowns.

How is role-match different from the ATS score?

They are separate calculations:

  • ATS score — weighted mix of parseability, sections, keywords, impact, and clarity (above).
  • Role-match score — percentage of a target-title keyword list found in your resume, with half credit for alias/“partial” matches.

You can score well on structure (ATS) but still show missing title keywords in the gap section, or the opposite. Pasting a job description improves the keyword factor inside the ATS score and helps AI commentary stay relevant; it does not currently rebuild the present/missing/partial gap lists from JD text — those lists come from the title vocabulary file unless legacy ATS missing terms appear in the report payload.

What is keyword coverage in the report?

Your report shows two related but different keyword signals:

  • Keyword coverage % (in the summary metrics) — usually the keyword sub-score from the ATS preset preferred for your language (Global or TR). With a JD, that sub-score uses JD-derived terms; without a JD, it uses title-based terms for the ATS keyword factor.
  • Present / missing / partial tags — from role-match: keywords associated with your target title, with partial meaning an alias match, not a direct phrase hit.

When no job description is provided, the pipeline may still generate a short synthetic job description via Gemini (or a deterministic fallback) for labeling and AI context — but the role-match gap lists remain title-list-based in the current implementation.

How should I interpret my ATS score?

Use it as a diagnostic checklist, not a pass/fail grade from an employer. Read the Top actions, keyword gaps, rewrite suggestions, and any flagged issues (e.g. parseability risk, missing sections, low keyword coverage in the ATS breakdown).

The product does not define official “pass” thresholds like 75 or 60 in code — those bands are informal coaching only. Internally, lower sub-scores trigger issue hints (for example parseability under ~55 or keyword sub-score under ~40). Improving those flagged areas and re-running analysis is more reliable than chasing a single number.

General questions

1) What is ResumeBee?

ResumeBee is a web-based, AI-powered resume analysis and rewrite tool. Upload your resume, enter your target role, and receive a detailed report covering ATS compatibility, keyword coverage, grammar quality, and role-match signals — all backed by AI-powered rewrite suggestions to help you land more interviews.

2) What does the report include?

A full ResumeBee report includes:

  • ATS score — how well your resume is structured for applicant tracking systems.
  • Keyword gap analysis — missing and present terms relevant to your target role.
  • Role-match score — how closely your experience aligns with the target position.
  • Grammar feedback — specific issues flagged with corrected alternatives.
  • AI rewrite suggestions — bullet-by-bullet improvements tailored to your role.

3) Is ResumeBee a web app or a downloadable program?

ResumeBee runs entirely in the browser — no download or install. Buy a report on Gumroad, unlock with your license key, upload your resume, and get results in about a minute.

4) Who should use ResumeBee?

ResumeBee is designed for any job seeker who wants to put their strongest resume forward quickly — including recent graduates, career changers, returning professionals, and experienced candidates targeting specific roles.

5) Is ResumeBee affiliated with LinkedIn or any other platform?

No. ResumeBee is a fully independent tool and has no affiliation with LinkedIn, Indeed, or any other job platform or recruiter service.

6) What AI technology powers ResumeBee?

ResumeBee uses Google Gemini for primary AI commentary, with optional Groq and ChatGPT fallbacks when configured. Grammar analysis uses the public LanguageTool API at https://api.languagetool.org/v2/check. Deterministic ATS and keyword logic keeps core scores consistent even when AI is skipped.

Input and analysis

7) Which file formats are accepted?

Supported formats: .pdf, .docx, and .txt. For best results, use a clearly structured PDF or DOCX without complex graphics, tables, or unusual fonts that can confuse text extraction.

8) What is the maximum file size?

The maximum file size is 15 MB. Most resume files are well under 1 MB, so this limit is rarely a concern unless you have embedded high-resolution images.

9) Is a target role required?

Yes — target role is required. Keyword coverage, role-match scoring, and rewrite suggestions are all calibrated to your target role. Without it, the analysis cannot be meaningful.

10) Is a job description required?

No, but it is strongly recommended. A job description improves the keyword portion of your ATS score (term extraction from the JD) and makes AI rewrite suggestions more specific. It does not currently change how present/missing/partial gap tags are built — those still use the target-title keyword list.

11) Can I include my LinkedIn profile?

Yes. You can optionally paste a LinkedIn URL or profile text. This provides additional context for alignment suggestions and helps identify consistency between your resume and your online presence.

12) Can I analyze multiple resumes?

Yes — each successful analysis uses one report credit from your Gumroad license key. Buy multiple credits by increasing quantity at checkout, or purchase again for more keys. You can analyze different resume versions or target roles as long as you have credits remaining.

13) What makes the keyword analysis accurate?

ResumeBee uses two deterministic keyword paths: (1) the ATS keyword factor — JD terms when you paste a description, otherwise title vocabulary; (2) role-match gap tags — a keyword list for your target title, resolved in order from legacy executive packs, the European ESCO occupation taxonomy, and the U.S. O*NET database, with AI expansion only when those sources are thin. Partial credit applies for alias-based “maybe” matches. Re-run analysis after edits to see scores update.

Reports and delivery

14) How do I receive my report?

After analysis, results are displayed directly on the page. You can:

  • Read the full report on screen.
  • Copy results to the clipboard.
  • Download the report as HTML (matches on-screen layout), DOCX, TXT, or PDF.
  • Optionally request delivery to your email address.

15) Can I share my report with someone else?

Yes. ResumeBee generates a shareable report link you can send to a mentor, career coach, or recruiter for collaborative review.

16) How long is my report available?

Reports are available for a limited time after generation. For permanent access, download HTML or TXT immediately after your analysis completes.

17) Can I re-run analysis on the same resume?

Yes. You can resubmit at any time — for example, after revising your resume based on the feedback. Each submission is a fresh, independent analysis.

18) Does ResumeBee guarantee interview callbacks or job offers?

No. ResumeBee provides data-driven analysis and AI-powered guidance to help you present your strongest resume — but hiring decisions involve many factors outside the tool, including recruiter preferences, market conditions, and interview performance. Our goal is to maximize your chances, not guarantee an outcome.

19) How is my resume data handled?

Your resume file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed to generate your report, and then the temporary upload file is deleted. ResumeBee retains only the minimal data needed to deliver and optionally share your report for a limited window.

20) Is resume content sold or shared for advertising?

No. ResumeBee does not sell, share, or license resume content for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose unrelated to generating your report.

21) Is my resume used to train AI models?

No. Resume content is not used to train or fine-tune any AI model.

22) Are uploaded files scanned for malware?

Yes. Uploaded files are passed through a security scan as part of the processing pipeline before any analysis begins. Suspicious files are rejected before they are parsed.

23) Where can I read the full privacy policy and terms?

Full legal details are on one page: Terms of Use & Privacy Policy (jump to Terms or Privacy).

24) What resume format works best?

A clean, text-based PDF or DOCX with clear section headings (Summary, Experience, Education, Skills) produces the most accurate text extraction and therefore the most reliable analysis. Avoid resumes built primarily from images, multi-column tables, or decorative graphics.

25) Should I tailor my resume before or after analysis?

Both approaches work. Many users run an initial analysis to discover gaps, then revise their resume and re-run to confirm the score improved. Using the keyword gap section as a direct editing checklist is one of the most effective workflows.

26) How do I get the most out of keyword gap analysis?

Paste the full job description to sharpen the ATS keyword factor and AI feedback. Use the missing tags as a checklist against your target title vocabulary — add terms only where they truthfully describe your experience. Prefer natural phrasing in bullets over keyword dumps at the bottom of your resume.

27) How should I interpret the ATS score?

See the Understanding ATS & scores section above for weights, Global/TR presets, and how ATS differs from role-match. Use the score together with keyword gaps and rewrite suggestions.

Grammar and writing quality

What grammar checker does ResumeBee use?

Grammar feedback is powered by LanguageTool through the public endpoint https://api.languagetool.org/v2/check. Issues are grouped in your report with suggested replacements when available.

What happens if grammar checks fail?

Grammar is a separate stage from ATS scoring. If LanguageTool is slow or unavailable, your report still includes ATS, keyword, and AI sections — grammar is marked skipped or unavailable rather than failing the whole analysis.

Does ResumeBee rewrite my resume automatically?

No. You receive recommended rewrites and priority actions; you choose what to apply in your own document. Download the report as HTML, DOCX, TXT, or PDF from the results page.

Pricing, Gumroad & license keys

28) What does ResumeBee cost?

Each full report costs $2 USD, sold on Gumroad: ResumeBee CV/Resume Review. After checkout you receive a license key by email. Paste it on the homepage and click Unlock report before analyzing.

29) Can I buy multiple reports at once?

Yes. On Gumroad, increase quantity at checkout — you still receive one license key, and quantity equals the number of reports on that key (e.g. quantity 5 at $2 each = $10 total, five reports). After each successful analysis, click Unlock report again to use the next credit.

30) Where do I find my license key?

Gumroad emails your receipt after purchase. The license key is in that email and in your Gumroad library. Copy the full key and paste it into the Gumroad license key field on the homepage.

31) What if analysis fails — do I lose a credit?

No. A Gumroad credit is consumed only after a successful full report. If analysis errors out, your key should still have the same remaining credits — unlock again and retry. Include the on-screen debug code when contacting support if problems persist.

32) What payment methods does Gumroad accept?

Gumroad processes payment (cards and other methods depending on your region). ResumeBee does not store card numbers or payment credentials — Gumroad handles checkout and sends you the license key.

33) I paid but can't unlock — what do I do?

Confirm you copied the full license key from your Gumroad receipt (no extra spaces). Email yorulmazyln@gmail.com with your Gumroad receipt and any debug code shown on screen. We will help verify or re-deliver access.

34) How can I contact support?

Email yorulmazyln@gmail.com for help with Gumroad payments, license keys, report access, or any technical issue. Include a brief description and your debug code (if one appeared) for the fastest resolution.

35) What should I do if my analysis fails or stalls?

Check that your file is .pdf, .docx, or .txt and under 15 MB. Close any VPN that might be interfering, unlock your key again, then retry. If the problem persists, email yorulmazyln@gmail.com with the debug code and a short description.

36) How can I support ResumeBee?

ResumeBee is built and maintained by a single developer. Buying a report on Gumroad supports the product directly. You can also leave a tip via Buy Me a Coffee — every coffee helps with server costs. ☕
